Silk flowers, known as “Xiang Sheng Hua” in ancient China, are a traditional craft using silk, satin, and other fine fabrics to create lifelike blooms. Its history dates back to the Tang Dynasty, and it reached its peak in the mid-Qing Dynasty, becoming an art form appreciated by both the imperial court and the common people.
In 2008, “Beijing Silk Flowers” were inscribed on China’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This art form uses silk for petals and copper wire for stems, shaped through dozens of meticulous steps—cutting, dyeing, curling, gluing—to achieve a beauty that “fools the eye, yet surpasses the real.” Every curve and hue is a testament to the artisan’s deep reverence for nature.
